2010 Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG)

On September 15, 2010, new standards for accessible design were adopted, known as the 2010 ADAAG. This was effectively the adoption of updated standards issued in 2004 by the US Access Board, and the new standards include accessibility innovations such as the requirement for pool lifts, accessible hotel reservation systems, play area accessibility, and much more. The 2010 ADAAG provided a safe harbor for compliance through March 15, 2012, by which point covered businesses must be in compliance. The 2010 Standards do not supplant elements of the 1991 Standards that were left untouched by the new standard's text, making it critically important to be familiar with both the new and old version of the ADAAG, and to comply with the 1991 version in areas not covered or amended by the 2010 version. The full text of the 2010 ADAAG can be read by clicking the link below.
